Entertainment Weekly, in conjunction with TV Land, put out their 50 Greatest Television Icons this week, and it's a pretty stellar list. Johnny Carson, naturally, is the number one icon of all time, and perusing the top 50, I could find little to disagree with: Homer Simpson at number nine, Letterman at number 16, Andy Griffith at 19, John Ritter at 29, Henry Winkler and Michael J. Fox in the 30s, Jon Stewart at 41, and ...

Wait? Calista Flockhart at number 49? Calista Flockhart, a television icon?! Ally motherfucking McBeal? You have got to be kidding me, right? This isn't a list of the top 50 waifs of all time (Flockhart would certainly appear in the top 10), nor a list of the 50 most famous celebrities with body dysmorphic disorder. It's not even a list of the top 50 most obnoxious title characters (Ally McBeal would come in at number two, right behind Meredith Grey). These are freakin' icons, and I don't care how low she is on the list, Calista "Get This Woman a Goddamn Milkshake" Flockhart should never appear on any list with icon in its title, unless its the Top 50 Biconcave women of Hollywood, in which case Calista would easily rank as number one.
