Dope Defined
1. A drug taken illegally for recreational purposes, esp. marijuana or heroin.
2. A stupid or unresponsive person.

Jon Bon Jovi recently admitted to America's Best Life magazine that in his pre-rock star days, he used to peddle dope as a kid living in New Jersey to make a little extra coin.

"I did the drug thing very young and wised up very young too, because I was into drugs a little too much. I was entrepreneurial even then, buying quarter pounds of dope and trying to make a couple (of) bucks."

Bon Jovi admits he was smart enough not to sample his own product - after one test trip left him suffering throughout a whole summer. He adds, "Did you ever smoke dope that was laced with PCP and then have that whole summer of hallucinations? It was f---ing awful. That's why I've never been a drug guy. I've always felt I didn't have the mental stability to handle drugs."

I'm just gonna come out and say it. There's not a single aspect of this entire story that doesn't sound suspect. First of all, what Jersey kid refers to increments of marijuana like they're running down to the corner deli to pick up some pastrami for their mom? Second of all, there were hippies at Woodstock who took the brown acid who didn't trip for an entire summer. Well played, Jovi -- but I see right through your act. This sort of thing is all too familiar -- he's obviously trying to toughen up his image. And can you blame the guy? He looks as though he spends more time in hair and makeup than an entire regional Texas beauty pageant. Be that as it may, I think the saying goes something like, "Only dopes make up lame stories about how they used to do dope and sell dope." I believe it was Nancy Reagan who said that.
