Mistake DefinedAn action or judgment that is misguided or wrong.
Courtney Love wrote on her
website that she is considering following in Radiohead's footsteps by giving her new album away on the internet for free. She says (heavily edited thanks to
Starpulse):
"The kamikaze pilot in me wants to do the same damn thing. I'm grateful
for Radiohead for making the first move. I'd do it differently. That's
why b-sides are no longer b-sides, but have to be a-sides, to an
extent. I love risk, and almost everything I've ever done well has been
because everyone said I was crazy to do it. That's why words like 'risk
management' and 'time management' are resonating with me now."
Under normal circumstances, it might be a
mistake for an artist to just give their music away. But considering that most people would rather listen to a recording of their family being brutally tortured by Santa Claus than a new Courtney Love album, it's probably the best shot she has of anyone listening to it. You can never underestimate what people will fall for if you tell 'em it's free. That's why free samples are so popular -- people will literally eat
turd pate if you smear it on a Ritz cracker and set it out on a tray at the grocery store.
