God Amongst Men

elvis_costello.gifA God Amongst Men (Noun, Colloquial) Refers to someone who is so fucking much cooler than you or I.

Elvis Costello, A God Amongst Men, the greatest musician on the planet from 1977 (My Aim is True)  to 1997 (Extreme Honey), is getting his own talk show.

The show will feature interviews and performances with other well-known musicians and discussions with celebrity guests. But Costello said he would not be digging for salacious gossip: "I'd rather hear about a deep love or a curiosity that might be obscured by fame."

"This is a wonderful opportunity to talk in complete thoughts about music, movies, art or even vaudeville, then frame it with unique and illustrative performances," he added. (Source)
There's the British for you; we get Tyra Banks, Rachel Ray, and a litany of no-talent giggly heads who can't wipe their own ass without an instruction manual, and the Brits get an Elvis Costello talk show. Hurry Down Doomsday.

Dustin, I think you're mistaken on one point: Elvis didn't stop making great albums in 1997. 2006's The River In Reverse was an incredible album. North (2000, maybe?) was good too.

No -- he didn't stop making great albums, but I'd argue he's been supplanted as the greatest artist on the planet since 1997, maybe by Ben Folds or Jeff Tweedy. Now, he's simply third.

Oh, I see what you mean now. And I'd agree that Tweedy's currently the best.

Oh so THAT'S the Elton John thing they've been talking about. I've been skimming over my Elvis mail this week as all the "Momofuku" has kinda blended in together and I'm just waiting for the damn album to come out already. Still, I'll believe it when I see it, he was going to be writing a couple of books a few years ago.

But if I *do* see it I imagine I'll be pleased.

Now, what exactly was better than "When I Was Cruel" by Ben or Jeff in 2002?

And why'd that fucking tornado have to fucking postpone the fucking show this month??? I get over my blah feeling about some of the last Imposters album and decide to give 'em a try and some more money and I get a tornado in return (that gig with Allen Toussaint was at the worst, worst, worst place in town. It wouldn't have mattered how good the show was, I was NOT going).

Nothing. And I beg to differ with the opinion that either of those guys have EVER been better than even the worst of EC's efforts. Humph.
