In Her Own Words

riccihypocricy4.pngOn Black Snake Moan:

Christina Ricci is still bitter over the promotional images her 2007 film “Black Snake Moan” used, saying that it “exploited” women.

The 28-year-old actress says that although she enjoyed making the film, the movie poster, in which she appears scantily-clad at the end of a chain held by co-star Samuel L. Jackson, is one of the most “disappointing and upsetting things” that has happened to her showbiz career.

On strippers in film:

Ricci claims stars like Lohan, who peeled off in 2007 movie I Know Who Killed Me, have created a culture of women who find flattery in misogyny.

She says, “It used to be something that we (women) were sort of ashamed of. You didn’t want to admit to people that you were a stripper. But now, the hottest thing to say is, ‘I can work a pole!’ Who gives a fuck? But it’s a huge weird thing. I mean, you see actresses, and their passion project is to play a stripper. It’s just stupid.”

And here are photos from her latest photo-shoot, from Giant Magazine, which aren't in the least hypocritical:

This really rubbed me the wrong way. I don't think this is hypocritical at all, I think thoses photos are very classy. She doesn't look like a stripper in the least, so why are we labelling her a "hypocrite"? Should she be wearing a burqa? She looks sexy without looking like she's exploiting herself. I'm not even a fan of hers but she's one of the more sane actresses of her generation, especially considering she's a former child star, so why are we harping on her when she's head and shoulders above most of the starletards in both class and talent?

I agree with brie, the photo shoot looks fairly classy and film noirish, I think she looks very pretty in them.

If the hypocrisy of the photoshoot is up for debate, one thing should not be. Black Snake Moan is about a sex addict, who spends most of the movie chained by Samuel L. Jackson. What did you expect on the poster, you ignorant bitch? Nice tits in Prozac Nation, by the way. And the cartoon look you sport in Speed Racer isn't explotative, either. Actors and actresses all have the same two jobs to choose from; look hot, or be funny. As you've chosen the former, perhaps you should help yourself to a piping hot bowl of shut the fu*k up.
