Role Model

tc-1870-mainicon.jpgRole Model (Noun) Any person who serves as an example, whose behaviour is emulated by others.

Over the weekend, after two-and-a-half years of negotiations, "Family Guy's" Seth MacFarlane finally completed a new $100 million deal with FOX that makes him the highest paid writer/producer working in television, surpassing the $60 million deal that J.J. Abrams has with ABC.

The pact, which could be worth more than $100 million, will keep MacFarlane at 20th TV through 2012. It covers his services on "Guy" and his other two animated series for 20th TV and Fox -- "American Dad!" and the upcoming "Guy" spinoff "The Cleveland Show" -- as well as his series development, which includes a multicamera comedy with "Guy" writer Gary Janetti.
What an awesome role model for cartoonists Seth MacFarlane has become, showing that you can make assloads of money despite having absolutely no talent whatsoever! Awesome. In fact, it paves the way for future 9-year-olds to get television deals, since most pre-teens have infinitely more talent than MacFarlane, can draw better, and may actually know what the hell a linear storyline is.

But then again, "Family Guy" is now the top-rated comedy on FOX (ahead of "The Simpsons"), which just goes to show you: Stupid is as ... fuck you.

Wow, bitter / jealous much?

Goddammit. I love TV, but it makes me fucking enraged sometimes.

i honestly don't see why this is such a bad thing, to be honest.

like you didn't laugh when family guy was just starting out.

I can't work up the energy to get enraged about this one. Though two kinds of antibiotics taken in tandem have something to with that--dang, those things will strip the bark off of a tree. Is this really any dumber than the cast of FRIENDS getting paid a million dollars per week in its last season? What the family? If I had friends like that, I'd be up on six cases of justifiable homicide.

None of the comments I leave ever get posted. It must be nice to walk through life with rose-colored glasses, only allowing voices who are in complete agreement with you be heard.

For the record, my earlier comment was something along the lines of this being a bitter-sounding post that looked like jealousy.

Not that this will get posted either.

Jesse, we receive hundreds of spam comments a day and sometimes regular comments get caught in the spam filter. I do my best to rescue the non-spam comments, but apologies if you've had ones missed. - Stacey

Family Guy is not funny. I have not laugh at a single line from that stupid ass show. Seth Macfarlane is a huge douchebag.

MR said:

Wait...the same assholes who killed off Arrested Development think this MacFarlane shitbag deserves $100 million for the gawdawful drek his ass splatters onto our airwaves?

If you work at Fox and had even the slightest involvement in this deal please know this:
Anal rape by a dildo the diameter of a coke can while it is dripping liquid flame is a fate too good for you.

Family Guy crosses the lines nobody wants to in public.
Kind of like "All in the Family" did or just Archie Buncher.
This show and characters are great.
I have been in front of a TV for 30 years - Wheel chair and bedridden. I have watched more TV then most anyone - I know. And this show is god dam funny ( Great ). And anyone that does not like must be getting made fun of. So if you are lighten up and take the joke. I do.

The Simpsons, on the other hand...

Family Guy is an awesome show. When it falls flat it falls hard but when it's in the zone it's memorable.

American Dad, and Family Guy, both ate huge amounts of ass when they first aired (as did the Simpsons) but eventually they came out of their terminal spins and became funny. Consistently? No. It's hard to give shows a second chance only to jump into the next unfunny rerun but if you give Seth a chance he can surprise the living shit out of you.

noWarhol said:

the show is insipid and people who accept it just prove that the lowest common denominator is really in the leaky, shit stained cellar of a crack house of american society. WAKE UP PEOPLE, it's not really good. in fact it makes you stupider if you watch it.

HA HA more power to Seth, Family Guy is fucking hilarious. If it takes no talent, lets see the editor of this blog do something better, dumbass.

Jealous much. The show is different from anything else on television and that's why it captures peoples attention. I suppose we should all watch Grey's Anatomy because it follows big plot lines, character development, drama, humor, acting. Sure Arrested Development was a great show, but NO ONE watched it. It won an academy award, thats great and all but when no more than 1 million people watch it, the big wigs make NO money. Obviously the guy has talent. Does 5 character voices and is the creator behind a show that went from being cancelled, to blowing up on Adult Swim, and back on FOX. To be the biggest money maker for FOX next to shows like 24, House, The Simpsons, American Idol, and Bones. Chill out and have a laugh at brainless humor for 22 minutes or just change the channel back to Frasier.

For the record, that makes "Arrested Development" the first series in television history to win an Academy Award. Awesome!

Mike, Family Guy is different from anything else on television? It's a clone of the Simpsons. Seth MacFarlane is a total hack. Of course sometimes it pays to be a hack in today's world, but that doesn't mean people have to respect them for it. Arrested Development was another steaming piece of crap of a show, but to be fair it's about average compared to all the other garbage Fox puts on TV. And criticizing a person's work doesn't mean you're jealous of him/her. Alot of people criticize President Bush's actions; does that mean they all secretly envy him?
